Bella's Surgery
[info]quilterbear
Miss Bella had her eye surgery this morning, in our kitchen :) Our vet, Dr. Anne, came with her assistant and they numbed her eye and snipped off the third eyelid that was hanging from the inner corner of her eye. She didn't feel it at all. She seemed quite grateful to have it removed, dancing around after Dr. Anne put her back down! Now for the bill.... *shudders* Guess we'll find out soon enough!

Now, however, she is acting rather poorly -- not seriously so, but I think that the numbness has well worn off and her body is reacting to the little snip. She is squinting that eye partially closed, as well. Poor thing, she took a long nap in Bear's arms, where he held her like a baby in the crook of his right arm. So sweet!

Mr. Vester's claws were all clipped and so that particular mishap won't be repeating itself. I wonder how often we will need to clip them? He is much less rambunctious today, so I think he knows he has no razors with which to terrorize!

We had a few hours without snow today, but it is now snowing in earnest, and it isn't supposed to stop any time soon. Probably will go on until Sunday, really. No school tomorrow, cancelled again. Bear is out in the kitchen making sugar cookies and cornish pasties again (with his own pastry) because he had enough filling for two days' worth. I'm glad that he is up and doing something besides playing Bejeweled. That game has him hypnotized, and with his clinical depression it is easy for him to get stuck there. We *have* had some really good talks about the book So You Don't Want to Go to Church (hate the title) by Wayne Jacobsen. It is really a powerful, profound, wonderful book. It explains so much of what we have both felt and experienced when it comes to church.

We watched another VHS tape of an old Doctor Who, called Castrovalva. It is the first episodes with Peter Davison. What a long way the modern series has come! I prefer them, of course, but it does Bear good to see some of the oldies. I watched them about 9 years ago when he first came to America but I didn't really "get" it. I'm much more aware of what is going on now that I've seen several years of the last two Doctors (Christopher Ecclestone and David Tennant). Wonder what this new one, Matthew Smith, will be like.

Snow Day! YAY!
[info]quilterbear
I really should be painting -- I WANT to be painting -- but I also wanted to write a post. Time is slipping away!

Today was a snow day, and we have had many inches so far, well over 6" I'm sure, but unsure as to how many exactly. Should've been a snow day yesterday, or a COLD day, as the windchill was bitterly cold and the buses could have slid on ice in these mountains. At least they were wise to call it today... and it has snowed all day since they called it off. Probably won't have school tomorrow, either. It was somewhat icy yesterday, then the snow came. And BITTERLY cold!

We spent the day getting me showered (it's quite an ordeal as I have difficulty getting in and out of the tall tub. We need a walk-in shower instead of a tub but no money to do it, alas) and dressed, and then we watched a movie I had requested from NetFlix called The Visitor. Has anyone here seen it? What a moving, poignant, powerful movie. Quite unusual... caused me to both cry and be very angry! Bear didn't respond quite as intensely as I but that's par for the course. Richard Jenkins and the rest of the cast were excellent. Bear has also been recording a lot of the Doctor Who shows we had on our DVR onto discs so he/we can watch them later. We really enjoyed the last one with David Tennant. Any other Doctor Who fans? Bear got Emmie and me hooked after he moved here to the USA.

I am reading a new book entitled the Shack, one that I didn't think I'd read because of all the hype, both good and bad. I am quite surprised at how very well it is written. I love it (for those who have read it, I am at the part where he first goes back to the shack and meets the three). I shouldn't have been surprised, since I loved (and haven't quite finished it yet) So You Don't Want to Go to Church (hope I got that title right), which was written by a co-author of The Shack. Wayne Jacobsen wrote the latter mentioned book, and helped with the first.

Here are the photos for today -- I figure if I do a lot now, I can skip some days when I forget to post! Don't forget to enlarge )

365 Days of Photos, more or less...
[info]quilterbear
I am going to try it again, posting a photo for each day. I did it last year when I saw that [info]curiouswombat had started one. I made it from March to August, and then life happened. I'm going to try again, and sometimes the photos will be daily and sometimes there will be several in one post to make up for days missed.

As you all know by now, my life is pretty limited so I have little to take photos of. That being said, I'm still going to do this. I've already posted a photo every day since January first, so it's a good time to start. Hopefully it won't bore you to tears!

Here is today's offerings, behind this cut. As always, click to enlarge. )

Painting #2
[info]quilterbear

I decided I am going to try to paint as frequently as possible. This is all very new to me and I'm on steep learning curve. I didn't use the pencils this time, but used the watercolors in tubes that I also got from Bear for Christmas (thank you to all those who donated via [info]frodo_esque's journal! This made my gifts possible!). I put a dab of each color on a plate and then discovered that it takes VERY little color so now I have the leftovers on the plate, covered with plastic wrap!

Anyway, I didn't know what to draw/paint, but wanted to do something that reflected my feelings inside. I was flipping through my photos on my camera of the area, on a tiny screen, mind you, and one caught my eye. Yes. That's what I wanted to use as my inspiration today.

Here is the photo I found, and the painting I did...behind this cut (click to enlarge) )

I love this picture! I found it on [info]auntconi's journal and she let me use it :) It is beautiful in my opinion. Click on it to see the most beautiful view.

anyway, I wanted to share the photos I took of the watercolor pencils since some of you asked to see them. here they are, hiding under this cut :) Click to make them bigger  )

Happy New Year To YOU!!
[info]quilterbear

Thank you all for being my friend. I hope the new year brings you joy, laughter, good health (at least not worse!), and the chance to make good memories.

I've had a great boost to my spirit in the last day or so, reading So You Don't Want To Go To Church. It is so good... nothing really like the title implies. Anyway, I am trying to live in the NOW, in this moment, right now. In this moment, I have all that I need. I am not in excruciating, terrifying pain. I am not on the verge of death. We do have a little food in the house. I have a roof over my head and a soulmate who loves me with every fibre of his being. I have a strong faith.
*I am blessed.*

I just wanted to tell you how much you mean to me. I don't respond to each comment though I *do* "in my head." Please know that your comments mean SO much to me, even if I don't respond. I read each one over and over, trust me on that.

This is a new year, and I am facing it with joy and a bit of trepidation, but I'm HERE, FACING IT! :) I made it through 2009 and so did YOU! YAY!

Much, much love,
QuilterBear

PS. I don't write about my medical situation here anymore, or at least if I do, it is minimal. I have another journal for that, called [info]patientbear. Just wanted you to know, especially if you are new to my journal.

Movie Meme
[info]quilterbear
You're not supposed to take too long to think about it. Name fifteen movies you've seen that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Tag fifteen friends, including me because I'm interested in seeing what movies my friends choose... (If you're reading this....please consider yourself tagged!) Or you can just put your answers in the comments.

I know that these are not my favorite movies, but they are movies that have stuck with me all these years and just came to the "tip of my tongue" as I typed.
